As FIDE has its principal secretariat in Athens, we are quite happy to have such an elite event in Greece. Additionally, the Greek Chess Federation is one of the most experienced and organized chess Federations in the world and their involvement in the organization of the event will be critical to its success,” said FIDE President Kirsan Iljumzhinov.

As a warmup Alexander Grischuk played six blitz games against KUKA. In the first three the grandmaster had white, and at first he had the initiative, but he could not break the resistance of his opponent. In fact in the third game he had to take refuge in a rook endgame. After the three draws the “Metallic Mind” had white, and its preponderance became apparent: KUKA Monstr won all three games and the match ended with a score of 4.5:1.5.

WC match expected to draw the biggest online crowd in history
|
THERE isn’t much that happens in the arena of world championship chess that is devoid of controversy, so the battle over this year’s title match was predictable. |
Ever since Iceland hosted the iconic Cold War match between Soviet Boris Spassky and American Bobby Fischer, it’s been taken for granted that neutral ground is important in world championship encounters. But FIDE is a highly politicized organization where favours and patronage can often trump common sense.
Carlsen wasn’t happy with the decision, and he said so. “The lack of transparency, predictability and fairness is unfortunate for chess as a sport and for chess players,” he said in a statement. Many feared the worst. After all, Carlsen had dropped out of the previous championship cycle over what he felt was unfairness in the rules.
Soon after Carlsen’s statement, the mayor of Paris submitted a bid to hold the tournament, offering 2.65 million euros and another 800,000 euros as a contribution to FIDE, a cheeky 10,000 more than the Chennai bid. “Paris is the city where FIDE was born and ever since, chess has been part of our cultural heritage,” the mayor said.
The Norwegian Chess Federation added its voice by protesting the process. But FIDE was not inclined to budge. Faced with the possibility of a world championship match without the world’s top rated player, FIDE called Carlsen’s bluff.
And faced with the prospect of perpetual political in-fighting preventing him from ever winning the world championship, Carlsen gave in. He agreed to Chennai, and has set about preparing for the match.
The tournament will be played Nov. 6-26, and is expected to draw the biggest online crowd in history. Though Anand has despatched Kramnik, Topalov and Gelfand in the last five years, he realizes this will be his toughest challenge ever. It’s going to be an entertaining match.

Norway Chess 2013 a great success!
Despite Karjakin’s early streak, the last couple of rounds had all the tension expected from a toplevel chess tournament. I was half a point behind after round 6 and when both Sergei and I won i R7 and lost in R8, six players were within striking distance before the last round. My own game was the first to finish. As black against world ranked no 2 L.Aronian, I managed to equalize early, and he decided to force matters. I could not find a way to play for an advantage and after Rc8 I didn’t have any better choice than exchanging queens and a pair of rooks. The opposite bishop and rook ending was dead equal, and a repetition of moves sealed the draw. Topalov had an advantage against Karjakin keeping the suspension until the first time control. By then Karjakin had equalized and also won a pawn, and he forced a repetition of moves to secure sole 1st with 6 points. Congratulations! Nakamura beat Hammer in a sharp Noteboom and joined me in shared 2nd half a point behind Karjakin. Svidler, Aronian and Anand shared 4th at 5 points after Anand had gambled and lost against Wang Hao in the last round. I’m very impressed with the Norway Chess organizers headed by Kjell Madland. Everything was organized at a very high level, including “details” such as ten black and white chess cars lined up outside the players hotel in Sandnes. The organizers, sponsors and volunteers made sure the players and visitors thoroughly enjoyed the stay. I really hope this event will become an annual tradition! Summer suddenly arrived in Sandnes yesterday and some of the players, accompanying persons and volunteers enjoyed a fun outdoor football session before the excellent and entertaining closing dinner. The Chess World Cup 2013 is a chess 128-player single-elimination tournament, played between 10 August and 5 September 2013, in Tromsø, Norway.
|
The World Cup will be held at the Scandic Hotel. |
The World Cup 2013 will take place in Tromsø, between 10th of August (arrival) and 4th of September (departure). With the City of Tromsø already identified with the Olympiad, there will be a strong focus from the chess world and Norway. |
Scandic Tromso has a central location in Tromso, close to the city’s airport. Most of Tromso’s attractions are within 5 kilometers of Scandic Tromso hotel. You can take short walks to the world’s most northern botanical garden or take the bus to attractions like Polaria, Arctic Cathedral and cable car to the mountain Storsteinen.
The World Cup will give the City of Tromsø a chance to test various technical solutions and gain valuable input prior to the Olympiad. We plan to use this occasion to show sponsors, government, media, and the public how to use the attention such an event will create in Norway. Although there will only be 128 players, the World Cup provides a chance to show the chess world that the City of Tromsø is ready for the Olympiad.

Russia’s Karjakin wins Norway chess tournament
LIVE The first chess super tournament in Norway! FINAL
Szergej Karjakin (orosz – Russia 2782.0 +15.0 ! world top 7) nyerte a norvég szupertornát.
Last update: 18 May 2013, 15:19 GMT Élőpont változás
STAVANGER, Norway (AP) — Russia’s Sergey Karjakin has won the €100,000 ($130,000) Norway chess tournament after drawing against Veselin Topalov of Bulgaria.
Karjakin needed only a draw against Topalov to take the top prize after the world’s No. 1 player, Magnus Carlsen, failed to win against Levon Aronian from Armenia, ranked No. 2.
Topalov went into the final day of the nine-day round robin event, drawing his eighth game to hand the overall victory to Karjakin.
There had been high hopes for Carlsen, playing at home, but he acknowledged that his play was “a little off.”
The 22-year-old Carlsen hopes to grab the world championship title from India’s Viswanathan Anand in November in the holder’s hometown of Chennai.
|
A szupertornán kiváló formában játszó orosz Szergej Karjakin nyert a vikingek hazájában megérdemelten. Magnus Carlsen második lett (Carlsen Norway 2864.3 −3.7 world top 1 ) Az eredmény hüen visszaigazolja az orosz sakk, és sakkozók klasszisát. Ugyanakkor megkérdőjelezhetetlen az, a norvég zseni játszik a vb címért. |
Carlsen rendkívül szimpatikusan a következőket mondta. – Ez lett volna a legkevésbé megérdemelt torna győzelmem.Elismerve ezzel, nem a legjobb formában játszott most. De nyilvánvalóan a stáb már a vébé döntőre is fókuszál. A 23 éves Szergej Karjakin pályafutása legnagyobb sikerének nevezte norvégiai tornagyőzelmét.
Ugyanakkor a nagy kérdés az, mennyire lesz képes tartani az őrült tempot, mely jellemzó lett a világ top sakkjára. Carlsennek köszönhetően Norvégia a sakkozás egyik fellegvára lett. Idén Világkupát, jövőre sakkolimpiát rendez az elsősorban északi sportjairól híres ország. Norway Press

Chennai confirmed as World Championship venue – Végleges: Anand hazai pályán játszhatja a világbajnoki döntőt Carlsennel
|
RULES & REGULATIONS FOR THE FIDE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH |
Hasonlóképpen nyilatkozott Simon Agdestein – Carlsen menedzsere : Az indiai klíma, egyenlőtlenné teszik a feltételeket, rontják Magnusz esélyeit. |
A játszma első fele eldőlt. Talán a semleges helyszin valóban szerencsésebb lett volna etikailag is.
Chennai confirmed as World Championship venue – World Championship match to take place at Chennai

The agreement was signed today at Baku by Bharat Singh, Hony Secretary All India Chess Federation and FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.

The Alekhine Memorial finished today in Saint Petersburg. This new elite event took place in two great venues and did not see any trouble with the organization.
